Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor Review

As a Bass player I was never a major fan of noise suppression to begin with, but when you play at high volumes in not-so-great venues, you may just change your mind. I use an Ibanez full-range active bass with a Peavey 1000 Watts Kilobass head and Hartke HyDrive speaker cabinet.

Initially, as with most Boss pedals, the NS2 looked extremely well-made and sturdy. Just having 3 knobs, I was very easy and super quick to dial in. “Don’t fix what aint broken” – You can pretty much say this about all Boss pedals. These pedals have continued to be the best and most reliable pedals available.

It’s amazing the amount of noise that the NS2 will suppress. You instantly realize what you’ve been missing out on the second you step on the switch. The “Threshold” and “Decay” knobs give you complete control over “Cut”. If you want to remove a lot, or just a little, this pedal does the trick. And if you would like some controllable feedback, this pedal will do the trick. And don’t forget about the Mode button which actually gives you the ability to use the pedal as Mute switch.

Another awesome feature of the NS-2 is the ability to run it through an effects loop! It has two jacks on each side to run “inline” with your pedal tree per the “Input” and “Output” jacks, or directly through your loop through the “Return” and “Send” jacks.

Over all, the NS-2 is a serious work horse, and is a complete “must have” for any type of playing (all genres). Its one of those,” I didn’t realize I needed this until I used one” type of things.
