Group lessons are sometimes also available which reduces the cost. For lessons to be successful, it is essential that you have an instrument of your own at home and that you practise daily.
Your teacher must not only be well-qualified and experienced but also be someone who puts you at ease and helps you feel confident. Look online or in your local telephone directory to find a teacher or ask for personal recommendations from friends and family.
A cheaper option is to follow an instruction book or DVD, which can be found in libraries, bookshops and music stores. There are also online teaching programs, many of which are free.
