Music, laughter, feelings of overwhelming joy, a sense of community togetherness; these descriptive phrases do not begin to demonstrate the vibe of a music festival. This guide to the Byron Bay Blues festival will provide an overview including the festivities’ location, accommodation, facilities and the music line up of the merrymaking six day event, which is held in Australia’s eastern most town in New South Wales.
In 1990 a music festival was held inside the Byron Bay Arts Factory, twenty one years later and still going strong, the event is now held at the Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm which is spread over one hundred and twenty hectares of land and is a working Tea Tree Farm located eleven kilometers north of Byron Bay.
Secure free parking is available adjacent to the Farm to help cater for the 17500 daily visitors expected at the gig. There is also a shuttle which event organizers will be running from Tyagrah to the city center, from there the town has an assortment of accommodation styles to suit all budgets and tastes such as self-contained units, fancy hotels, drive in motels and caravan parks.
If camping out amongst the stars and approximately six and a half thousand other revelers appeals to you, then book into the adjacent campgrounds which are able to accommodate tents, caravans and trailers, or even a swag on the ground. Showers and toilet facilities are situated throughout the area for greater comfort. Walk freely without shoes as glass is banned within the campground. Alcohol is not allowed in the area and organizers have requested that holiday makers keep their noise to a minimum. If you don’t have room in the car due to the amount of mates you will have packed into it, there is a tepee village already erected and waiting to house party goers.
There are areas within the festival grounds where alcohol can be consumed as well as a child minding service and markets, as well as food halls, an ATM and areas to get up close and personal with your favorite artist as they conduct autograph signings.
The popularity of the festival is a draw card for large international music names such as Bob Dylan and national icons like Clare Bowditch and Wolfmother. Big names such as these bring the people who helped the function win the 2010 Australian Event of the Year Award.
The tickets range from single day passes for adults or children, or a passes that will cover the entire event. There are also packages for families or couples and VIP tickets. Volunteers are welcome to apply to help out with the festival, however this is an extremely popular organization for those known as ‘Vollies’ and not all applications are accepted.
The festival is set to be another popular and successful event. Tickets sell out not long after they are offered for sale, so if you don’t have them yet they may already be sold out for the days you want to attend. Go along and enjoy the smiling, singing and jolly good feeling which is usually associated with this musical bonanza.
