What Are The Uk’s Best Music Festivals?

One of the most exciting things about British summer is the annual music festivals that take place around the country. The UK offers a range of different festivals that boast some of the most famous pop artists in the world, along with fun activities for friends and family. From the infamous Glastonbury to the intimate Bestival, there are festivals to suit all eclectic tastes.

Glastonbury – The Glastonbury Festival is the largest festival in the UK and is famous all over the world for it’s variety of entertainment and world class lineups. With around ten different music stages there is always something to suit everyone from dance music to world music, and pop music to rock music. It can all be found within the Glastonbury fields in rural Somerset. The headline acts are usually the best current bands or artists and have featured the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Jay Z, Coldplay and now U2. Glastonbury is also famous for the mud; but hey, isn’t that part of the fun?!

The Big Chill – The festival based in Herefordshire offers a variety of performances including poetry readings, comedy and dance acts as well as music from international artists. This festival suits many eclectic tastes as it provides visitors with a diverse musical genres ranging from dance and pop to jazz and folk music. Along with the number of activities available, visitors can marvel at the castle backdrop.

Isle of Wight Festival – Perhaps most famous for Jimi Hendrix’s performance in 1970, this festival is steeped in history and has seen some legendary performances over the years. Sadly the 1970 weekend was to be it’s last festival until it made a successful return in 2002. The Isle of Wight festival has since regained it’s place on the festival map and bands such as Muse, REM and Coldplay have made it one of the must attend music events of the year.

Leeds and Reading Festival – Both festivals are arguably two of the most popular during the summer as they provide music from some of the best current pop and rock acts. Leeds and Reading hold their festivals at the same time which means that the majority of artists play both festivals and jump back and forth. This is another event that sells out very quickly when they go on sale. Previous acts have included The Prodigy, Radiohead and Kings of Leon.

The V Festival – Again, the V festival features two sites sharing the same lineup over the same weekend. It’s more focused on pop and usually features bands that are popular at the time. For this reason it’s another very popular event that tends to sell out within hours. The real trick is in deciding you want to go way in advance of the tickets going on sale!

As you can see, there are a number of music festivals in the UK that suit all tastes. With the amount of activities available and diverse musical talents on show, there’s something for everyone to enjoy during the great British summer.
